Rafa and Im'aan named flag-bearers for the Maldives at Islamic Solidarity Games
The duo leads a 73-member delegation competing across four sports, embodying the nation's pride and determination as they represent the Maldives alongside athletes from over 50 Islamic nations until November 21.

National table tennis star Aishath Rafa Nazim and accomplished swimmer Ali Im'aan have been chosen to proudly carry the Maldivian flag at the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG), which officially kicked off in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.

The flag was presented to the two athletes during a special ceremony held at the Athletes’ Village in Riyadh by Mohamed Abdul Sattar, President of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC). This marks a memorable milestone for both Rafa and Im'aan, as it is the first time they have been given the honor of representing the nation as flag bearers at an international event.

Both athletes are among the Maldives’ most accomplished sports figures, having competed in numerous international tournaments and brought home medals that have elevated the country’s sporting profile. Their selection as flag bearers celebrates not only their personal achievements but also the dedication and passion they embody for Maldivian sports.

The MOC President highlighted the pride that comes with carrying the national flag on behalf of all Maldivian athletes at such a prestigious international stage. He encouraged Rafa, Im'aan, and the entire Maldivian contingent to give their very best and to represent the nation with determination and unity.

The Islamic Solidarity Games, running from Friday until November 21, will feature Maldivian athletes competing in handball, athletics, swimming and table tennis. Competitors from these sports have been training intensively over recent months in anticipation of the tournament, which brings together athletes from across the Islamic world.

Serving as Chef de Mission for the Maldivian contingent is Mohamed Jaushan Shareef. The delegation includes 73 members, comprising athletes, coaches, and officials.

The Maldives last participated in the 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya, Turkey, where local athletes competed in table tennis, swimming, 3x3 basketball and athletics. This year’s edition promises an even larger stage, with more than 50 nations set to take part in this celebration of athletic excellence, solidarity and cultural unity.
