In response to the recent killing of an elderly resident on Maalhos island of Alif Alif atoll, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has restricted all departures from the island. Authorities have announced that no one is permitted to leave without official police clearance as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to the police institution, the deceased is Abdul Rahman, 65, of Orchid Maage, Maalhos.

According to initial reports, Abdul Rahman was tragically killed while he was asleep in the late hours of the night.

So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Authorities remain actively engaged in Maalhos as the investigation continues. While residents are prohibited from leaving Maalhos without police permission, authorities are also closely monitoring all movement on and off the island.

Abdul Rahman was rushed to the local health center after sustaining severe injuries while he slept during the late hours of the night. Despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away in the early hours of the morning while receiving treatment.

A team of police officers from capital Malé City is scheduled to travel to the island to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
