Presidential Youth Advisory Board

Three additional members have resigned from the Presidential Youth Advisory Board, which was established to advise President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on youth-related matters.

Aminath Rabaab Ibrahim, Fathimath Raaia Shareef, and Nimaal Hameed resigned on Saturday. They announced their resignations through posts shared on social media.

Earlier, TV presenter Huwaina Mohamed Nihad also resigned from her post. She tendered her resignation on Thursday.

All resigned members have expressed dissatisfaction with how the authorities have been handling the incident where Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed fell from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoy. They also noted that they have always stood with the youth and stated that they work for justice.

Many young adults have been continuously protesting in the capital Malé City to express their dissatisfaction with the investigation into the case where the girl fell from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoy on the roof of H. Mithaaz in the early hours of April 18.

During the protest held on Friday night, Nazaha Nazeem, the Vice President of the Presidential Youth Advisory Board, spoke in defense of her position. She said that the current corrupt system in the Maldives can only be improved by working within the system. However, the protesters expressed dissatisfaction with Nazaha's statements and continued to call for her resignation.

So far, four members have resigned, while the committee comprises a total of 15 members.

These include two members appointed by the president, two national-level athletes, two members from the arts and crafts sector, two members from the youth empowerment sector, four members from four areas designated by the Youth Ministry, and three members from among the presidents of university student unions.

The chairman of this board is Daud Ahmed, who holds the position of Under Secretary for Digital Strategy at the President's Office. However, as various parties called for his resignation in connection with the case, he has since resigned. Instead of dismissing him from his current position at the President's Office, he has been suspended in relation to the case.

In the protests that youth are conducting in connection with the case, they are mainly calling for justice for the girl who fell from the building, and for the arrest and proper punishment of those responsible for negligence in this case.

In addition to this, during the youth protest on Friday night, calls were made for the resignations of Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, and Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen.
