An event to light up the festive lights to commemorate the upcoming Eid-al-Fitr, is to be held in Hulhumalé this year.
The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works said that the event is scheduled to be held on the night of March 29 at Central Park in Hulhumalé.
The ministry revealed that in addition to the islands and cities that were illuminated last year, Eid lights will be sent to an additional 36 islands this year. They also highlighted that the work of installing Eid lights in the capital Malé City is currently progressing with great enthusiasm, and that the State Electric Company (STELCO) along with some government companies, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and Malé City Council are leading the effort.
State Minister Ahmed Rasheed, who is actively leading the nationwide Eid illumination campaign, revealed that with the 36 new islands being illuminated this year, a total of 65 islands will be lit up for this year's Eid al-Fitr.
The Illumination Event Committee revealed that the work of sending lights and speakers to the 36 newly illuminated islands will proceed on March 24.
The government continues to work on illuminating all islands of the Maldives in connection with Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha every year.
