President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that when the Fisheries Complex being built in Ihavandhoo island of Haa Alif atoll is completed and operational, 150 jobs will be created in Ihavandhoo and the fishing industry will progress further.

He said this during his speech at a meeting with the people of Ihavandhoo on Wednesday.

Taking the podium at the meeting, the president noted that Ihavandhoo is a fishing island and that the Fisheries Complex project, for which the foundation has been laid, is an important work for the future of the industry. He also assured the island community that the project, for which the practical work will begin in May 2025, will be completed within 18 months.

As part of the project, the president said that a cold storage capacity of 1,000 tons and a brine freezing capacity of 50 tons will be established. President Muizzu also said that a jetty and harbor will be built in the complex to facilitate fish unloading from three points. The president said that the project, valued at MVR 474 million, is a significant project being carried out for the prosperity and development of the island.

Highlighting that his presidential goal is to seek solutions for the needs of the people and that all state work is structured under that principle, the president shed light on the housing shortage issue in Ihavandhoo.

Further, President Muizzu also said that under the housing project that has now been announced, 200 housing units will be contracted to be built on the island.

At the ceremony held for the president to meet with the island community, ID card services and passport services were introduced in Ihavandhoo.

In addition to this, the work of installing an ATM in Ihavandhoo by Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) was officially handed over to the island council.

Further, agreements were signed for the construction of a modern hospital in Ihavandhoo, agricultural work, and the development of Ihavandhoo Huravee Ground.
