The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has stated that temporary shelter has been provided to 14 Maldivians from five households and eight expatriates in connection with the fire incident at the Fruit Tree store warehouse.

The fire sparked in the building at around 4:15am on Friday. The fire that broke out in the building was extinguished around 5:30am. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed that the fire broke out on the first floor of the Fruit Tree Apple store warehouse.

The fire occurred in a three-story building, modestly constructed at M. Kelaage.

Regarding the fire incident, NDMA said that in connection with the fire incident at the Fruit Tree store warehouse, their team had been actively working in the area to confirm if there were any households that needed humanitarian assistance. Due to the smoke from the fire incident and the damage to the building, there were 33 individuals from 10 households who need temporary shelter. This included 14 Maldivians and 19 foreigners.

NDMA revealed that out of these, temporary shelter and food have been arranged for 14 Maldivians and eight expatriates from five households. In addition to this, one foreign family has moved to their own temporary shelter, and 11 foreigners have been provided assistance by the companies they are associated with.
