Democrats shower Nasheed with congratulations on receiving Global Citizen Award

The Democrats have extended warm congratulations to Former President Mohamed Nasheed on receiving the "Henley & Partners Global Citizen Award".
In a statement issued by the party, The Democrats noted that the prestigious award is given to “a global citizen who has made an extraordinary contribution to improve the global community”.
The statement highlighted that Nasheed has received numerous international awards and honors for his notable work.
The Democrats revealed that this indicates that he is a global leader in defending human rights and working on climate change issues.
The "Henley & Partners Global Citizen Award" was presented to Nasheed at a special ceremony held in Singapore on Thursday.
Nasheed has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the "Environmental Heroes" as well. The Democrats said this reflects the importance he has long given to environmental issues.
Foreign Policy magazine has included him in the list of top global thinkers. This shows his growing influence on the global stage, and the statement also mentions that the UN "Champions of the Earth" award conferred to Nasheed recognizes him as "a voice for the vulnerable and poor who face the challenges of climate change".
Nasheed has in the past received the "Anna Lindh Memorial Fund Human Rights Prize" for his work on human rights and peaceful activism.
