Authorities have cracked down on a fishing vessel carrying a massive drug shipment, in Maldivian waters.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that 344 kg of crystal meth and 124.6 kg of cocaine were found on a Sri Lankan fishing vessel that was seized while operating illegally in Maldivian waters.

The vessel was seized by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard some time late Saturday.

According to the police institution, the vessel was inspected by Kulhudhuffushi City Police and MNDF Coast Guard on Sunday morning and was brought to Kulhudhuffushi harbor.

Speaking to press, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau revealed that the Sri Lankan fishing vessel was seized at around 12:45am on Sunday, off the coast of Makunudhoo island.

Police have stated that the vessel, named "Ashan Putha", had five crew members on board at the time of the raid, all of whom were Sri Lankan men.
