India, Maldives exchange five agreements including USD 400m currency swap agreement

Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been exchanged between the governments of India and Maldives, including a USD 400 million currency swap agreement.

The agreements, MoUs and Note Verbale were exchanged on Monday as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing official visit to the neighboring country upon the official invitation of India’s President.

During Monday’s ceremony, “A vision for comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership" was adopted as well.

Further, the servicing of the Huravee Coast Guard ship by Indian assistance on gratis basis was also announced.

Monday’s ceremony was joined by the Maldivian president, PM Modi as well as other senior officials from both countries.

Further, the ceremony also saw the launching of the Rupay Card via a video presentation, the inauguration of the new runway at Hanimaadhoo International Airport, and the handover of 700 completed social housing units built under the Buyers Credit facility of EXIM Bank of India.

Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ahmed Munawwar and Secretary at the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance Shri Ajay Seth exchanged the Currency Swap Agreement between the Maldives’ central bank and the Reserve Bank of India.

Further, the MoU for cooperation between the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement and Rashtriya Raksha University was exchanged by High Commissioner of Maldives to India Ibrahim Shaheeb and Secretary of Border Management at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr. Ranjit Kumar.

The MoU between the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Maldives and the Central Bureau of Investigation of India for cooperation on preventing and combating corruption was exchanged between HC Shaheeb and Secretary Kumar.

The extension of the MoU between the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of Maldives and the National Judicial Academy of India for training and capacity building for Maldivian Judicial Officers was exchanged between HC Shaheeb and High Commissioner of India to Maldives Munu Mahawar.

The extension of the MoU between the Maldives and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India for cooperation in sports and youth affairs was exchanged by HC Shaheeb and HC Mahawar.
