MP for Thimarafushi constituency Mohamed Musthafa has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service (MPS) for questioning.

The lawmaker, accused of attempting to incite a coup, has been ordered to present himself to the police headquarters at 4 pm on Monday.

His summon notice states that the MP had, during a programme on RaajjeTV on July 28, spoken in a manner that encouraged the people to commit unlawful acts to topple the current government.

While Musthafa was summoned to the police last Monday, it was cancelled shortly after. No reason was given for the cancellation.

Authorities confiscated the MP's passport last week, banning him from traveling out of the country for a period of three months, from August 8 to November 8.

In addition to MP Musthafa, authorities have seized the passports of Galolhu-South constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof and Nolhivaram constituency MP Hussain Areef as well.
