Anil’s no confidence motion sent to Parliament

The no confidence motion on Attorney General Mohamed Anil has been resent to the Parliament.
The case was put forward by the joint opposition on Thursday.
The motion said that Anil, in his capacity as AG had inserted political influence into the branches of the state, prevented accountability of the government by the Parliament and infringed on the right of elected representatives in the Parliament. It also noted that the AG had resorted to extrajudicial measures by seeking to criminalize floor crossing.
The no confidence motion on the AG was first submitted to the Parliament on July 20th. It was kicked out five days later.
Parliament laws dictate that if a no confidence motion on a Cabinet Minister is sent to the Parliament, the said Minister must be notified of the debate 14 days before the debate. The Minister will be given the opportunity to present a written statement and he will be able to speak in the session.
Forty-three MPs must vote in favor of the motion in order to pass the motion.
