The Maldivian leader has arrived in India, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

In a publication on Saturday evening, the President’s Office revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu departed to the neighboring country on Saturday evening.

President Muizzu touched down in the capital city of India, New Delhi.

Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Maldivian leader and his delegation were received by one of the senior-most officials currently at the Ministry of External Affairs, Pavan Kapoor, Secretary (West), and Ibrahim Shaheeb, High Commissioner of Maldives to India alongside Munu Mahawar, High Commissioner of India to the Maldives.

Taking to social media platform ‘X’ before departing, Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer expressed confidence that the visit to the neighboring country would enhance the relationship and provide further momentum to the partnership between both countries.                       

This marks his first-ever official visit to India since assuming office on 17 November 2023.

President Muizzu is accompanied by a high-level delegation of senior government officials, including Minister Zameer.

President Muizzu was invited by PM Modi, which he graciously accepted to attend the oath taking ceremony of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers of the government of India.

High Commissioner Mahawar presented the letter of invitation to the Maldivian president during a courtesy call paid at the President's Office.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 9.

The ceremony will be attended by leaders from neighboring countries as well as other countries.
