The body of an 11-year-old boy who had allegedly committed suicide, was brought to the capital Malé City on Wednesday for further examination.

His body, which was discovered at around 2 pm on Tuesday, was transferred to Malé from Noonu Maalhendhoo at around 9:50 am on Wednesday.

An official from the Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that the boy's body had been taken to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where they will be conducting further tests in order to determine the circumstances of his death.

Noonu Maalhendhoo Council President Mohamed Shah told RaajjeMV that the police are yet to confirm the cause of death, adding that there are reports that he had "strangulation marks".

"He was found hanging from bedroom door," Shah added.

The boy had been residing with his parents and two siblings.
