Nine individuals, who were arrested from a march demanding answers in the case of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan, have been released.

Rilwan's family, friends and well-wishers participated in the march held on Tuesday evening, which was disrupted by police who used pepper spray at the participants.

South Galolhu constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof and Central Henveiru constituency MP Ali Azim were among those arrested on Tuesday, after showing disapproval at the officers who had pepper sprayed Rilwan's mother, Aminath Easa.

In addition to the two, seven others were arrested as well. They were released by 10 pm on Tuesday, after being taken to the police headquarters, Shaheed Hussain Adam Building, to be booked.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, one of the arrestees said that they were accused of holding an unlawful gathering.

Police said that the march was disrupted for violating the Peaceful Assembly Act.

Last seen on 8th August 2014, Tuesday marked three years since Rilwan's disappearance. His family and friends have criticized the police over the slow progress of the investigation, and their refusal to provide updates of the investigation to the family, and failure to apprehend the culprits.
