A new Chief of Defence Force has been appointed.
Commander-in-Chief of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made the appointment on Thursday.
Vice Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy was appointed as the new Chief of Defence Force during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday.
The appointment was made following the retirement of outgoing Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef on April 17.
His letter of appointment was handed over at Thursday’s ceremony.
Further, Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas was also appointed as the Vice Chief of Defence Force during the ceremony.
