He called on the people to acknowledge the importance of celebrating Eid-Al-Adha and Eid-Al-Fitr in Islam

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged the public to observe the upcoming blessed day of Eid-Al-Fitr, in solidarity.

He said this while speaking to the public, at the grand ceremony held to officially unveil the newly established Republic Square water fountain, and inaugurate the festive ‘Eid Ali’, to light up the capital city.

Taking the podium at the event, the president encouraged his people to observe the blessed day of Fitr Eid in unity and called on the people to acknowledge the importance of celebrating Eid-Al-Adha and Eid-Al-Fitr in Islam.

Pushing the public to take part in the festivities to celebrate Eid, the president stated that the inauguration of festive lights to light up the city with brighten the urban landscapes in cities and atoll administrative capitals across the Maldives, which will enhance the celebratory spirit among Maldivians.

He said that the festive lights installed, joined with its speaker systems unveiled nationwide in cities and administrative capitals of atolls would continuously play Eid Takbir throughout the festivities.

Muizzu expressed commitment to expand the reach of this initiative, and stated that the administration aims to extend it to more islands in time for Eid-Al-Adha celebrations.

The president also expressed desire to continue to expand this initiative, to reach an even wider range of islands next year.

Monday’s ceremony saw the president reinstating the operations of the Jumhooree Fountain at the Republic Square.

Due to lack of maintenance, the operations of the landmark have been at a standstill for a while now.

The ceremony was joined by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and his spouse Aishath Afreen.
