The government of Maldives has condemned the attack carried out on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Syria by Israel.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the recent attack on the Iranian Consulate in the capital of Syria.
The government of Maldives stressed that the targeting of diplomatic facilities is a violation of international law.
It also undermines the rules of diplomatic immunity and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Further, the Maldives shed light on the significance of upholding the sacredness of diplomatic premises according to international conventions.
The statement also offers sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families and to all those affected by this incident, on behalf of the government and people of Maldives.
Due to the government’s failure to mention Israel as the attackers, it has drawn public criticism.
A commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Mohammed Reza Zahedi, was killed in the attack.
Israeli warplanes bombed Iran's consulate on Monday in a strike that Iran said killed seven of its military advisers, including three senior commanders, marking a major escalation in Israel's war with its regional adversaries.
Iran has since vowed revenge.
