April 21 and April 22 have been declared government holidays.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu declared the two days as government holidays, as it is the date set for parliamentary elections 2024, and the day after.
This year’s People’s Majlis polls are slated for April 21.
Considering this, the day of polling, Sunday and the day after have been declared government holidays during which government offices and state institutions will be closed for public service.
This comes at a time Election Commission of the Maldives (EC) earlier requested the government to declare the polling day a government holiday, as a significant number of state employees as well as the general public are involved in several activities linked to the polls.
EC further requested to designate April 22 as a government holiday as well, in a bid to easily accommodate important tasks such as vote counting, announcing the results, and other election-related activities.
