Council members of Rakeedhoo island of Vaavu atoll have requested the government to identify a suitable island to relocate their residential population.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Wednesday.
At the meeting, the island councilors urged the administration to identify a suitable island for the relocation of their community, preferably in Kaafu atoll.
Discussions also revolved around the need for a shore protection initiative, easier access to transportation, the need for sports development as well as the provision of a better work environment for the council.
Speaking at the meeting, the president inquired from them location details, regarding their request to relocate the island community.
Muizzu pledged to work closely with the island council as well as residents, to achieve this goal.
The meeting also saw the councilors sharing the urgent need to provide essential services to the residents.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
