President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu concluded his tour of several islands in four northern atolls.
The president departed on the six-day tour from Velana International Airport (VIA) on February 24.
He concluded the six-day tour and returned to the capital, Malé City on Thursday.
As part of the tour, he visited several islands in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaal, Shaviyani and Noonu atolls.
A delegation of high-level government officials accompanied the president during the tour.
Muizzu engaged in discussions with island and city councils, as well as Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) during the tour.
He also held meetings with city and island communities to discuss the development plans intended for their respective islands.
The trip also saw the island communities sharing their development needs and concerns with the president. Muizzu earlier expressed commitment to work closely with the people to deliver development promises.
As such, the president will be visiting and collaborating with local councils to mirror his commitment to ensure development for the people through a hands-on approach, to ensure that development projects echo the people’s needs and goals.
During his first visit to outlying atolls since assuming office back in November 2023, the president expressed commitment to visit all the islands and meet with councils, before the fasting month of Ramadan approaches.
Recently, he met with several councils in the south of Maldives, as part of a tour he conducted to some islands in Gaaf Alif, Gaaf Dhaal as well as Addu City and Fuvahmulah. As such, he met all local councils in Addu, Fuvahmulah and Thinadhoo, as well as in Thaa and Gaafu Dhaal atolls and all but two in Gaaf Alif atoll.
