This was announced by the president while speaking to residents of Makunudhoo island

The government is to carry out a mega project to establish island council secretariats on 50 islands within the year.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced this while speaking to residents of Makunudhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll, on Monday.

As such, detailing that the buildings to house the island council secretaries on 50 islands would be built under the Investor Finance Model, the president stated that the 50 islands included within the project will be selected based on the severity of the damages to existing facilities that house the councils.

He however, did not disclose additional details regarding the project, including expenses and how the state will acquire funds to carry out the project.

Expressing commitment to fully realize the autonomous functioning of the decentralized administration of the administrative divisions, the president expressed keenness to closely collaborate with the public.

Further, he announced plans to extend the runway of the Makunudhoo Airport to 1,800 meters.

Muizzu revealed that the land reclamation project on the island will be strategically designed to foster development across the island.

The president went on to reveal that the road construction project will be implemented as he pledged earlier.
