Discussions have been held regarding the development needs of Baarah island of Haa Alif atoll.

This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Sunday.

The meeting saw Baarah councilors sharing key concerns facing the island community, including space constraints in the council secretariat, preservation of historical and archaeological sites on the island and the necessity for a sports facility for the youth.

The councilors also made a request to increase the number of doctors present on the island, in a bid to enhance healthcare services provided to the community.

In addition to this, discussions were held on transportation challenges, along with the need for the installation of fish aggregating devices to promote youth engagement in fishing.

Baarah WDC members touched upon the challenges they face as well, including lack of an adequate workspace as well as budget limitations.

The island’s WDC requested to designate an area for women at the beach, as well as to establish sewerage services.

Listening to these concerns, the president expressed commitment to resolve the issues raised.

At the meeting, members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers shared updates on the initiatives planned for the island’s progress.
