The government has been urged to prioritize the infrastructural development of Kondey island of Gaaf Alif atoll.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with members of the island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Wednesday, as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.
Speaking at the meeting, the councilors stressed the need to prioritize the island’s infrastructural, economic and social development.
Discussions also revolved around pressing matters related to the economic and infrastructure development of the island including the need to expand the island’s harbor and build housing units.
Further, they talked about the establishment of laboratory services and work to extend the health center building, to pave the path to efficiently conduct medical tests.
The council also requested changes to be brought to the water sanitation and outflow project.
Listening to these concerns, Muizzu stated that some of the administration’s prioritized endeavors include development of agriculture in the Maldives at the national level.
Adding that priority should be given to islands with sufficient land to carry out the work, the president stated that efforts would be carried out to promote and develop local tourism, focusing on multiple sectors.
President Muizzu also assured the council that he would prioritize providing solutions to issues raised at the meeting.
