1,146 tourist facilities operational across the Maldives

The number of tourist facilities that are currently operational across the Maldives sits at 1,146.
This was revealed by the latest weekly statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Saturday.
As such, the ministry’s figures revealed that as of February 10, the number of operational tourist accommodation facilities across the Maldives sat at 1,146.
The guesthouses span across 114 islands of 20 atolls, with hotels operational in nine islands of eight atolls. 70 percent of the bed capacity is occupied by resorts, followed by 22 percent occupied by guesthouses, five percent by safari vessels and three percent by hotels.
Presently, a total of 61,586 tourist beds are in operation across these facilities, which include 175 resorts, 816 guesthouses, 15 hotels and 140 live-aboard vessels.
The beds operational across these facilities include 43,123 in resorts, 2,016 in hotels, 13,747 in guesthouses and 2,700 in live-aboard vessels.
Maldives currently has a capacity of 1,151 tourist facilities which include 140 safari vessels, 816 guesthouses, 15 hotels and 180 resorts. This means that of the total facility capacity, five resorts have yet to resume operations.
The ministry introduced Homestay in the Maldives in January 2022. Since then, a few more homestay facilities have been opened. This came under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tourism development vision and policy to make tourism and its benefits accessible to the island communities as well.
