The incumbent administration is committed to extensively support and empower women, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
He said this during a meeting held with members of Kinbidhoo council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Thursday.
The meeting was held as part of the president’s brief three-day tour of some islands of Thaa atoll, which he began on Tuesday and concluded on Thursday.
During the meeting held at the Kinbidhoo School, councilors shared the development challenges surfacing for the island as well as concerns of the community.
Discussions revolved around the need to link Kinbidhoo and Veymandoo through reclamation, as well as the need to develop a multipurpose hall at Kinbidhoo School.
The president was also briefed on the challenges surfacing in efforts to seek Aasandha services, the government’s universal healthcare insurance scheme.
Concerns regarding tourism development, transportation, and social issues were also raised at the meeting.
Councilors went on to share difficulties faced by the youth community, due to insufficient sports facilities on the island.
The meeting saw the island’s WDC members sharing their concerns as well as needs including concerns regarding financial limitations and difficulties faced by women in marketing their products.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured that he would work with relevant authorities to seek agreeable solutions to tackle the issues raised.
President Muizzu strongly encouraged the council to capitalize on the opportunities the government has presented, in a bid to generate substantial revenue for the island and its inhabitants.
He also shed light on the administration’s commitment to empower women and assured that it would continue to create increased opportunities for women in the future.
