President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has engaged in discussions with members of Thaa Atoll Council.
This was done during a meeting held with the Thaa Atoll Council members on Wednesday.
The meeting was held as part of the president’s brief three-day tour of some islands of Thaa atoll, which he began on Tuesday and concluded on Thursday.
During the meeting, Thaa Atoll Council members praised the president for his reassuring and promising responses after listening to the concerns of the people, during the tour.
The councilors briefed the president on the development needs of the atoll and shed light on the requirement of redeveloping the Atoll Hospital to modern standards.
They also shed light on the importance of introducing tourism across four islands of the atoll and touched upon their vision for an international airport with an economic zone based in the atoll.
Thaa Atoll Council members went on to propose the development of a fish factory.
The president was also briefed on the challenges of intra-atoll travel within the atoll as well.
Listening to these concerns, the president announced his decision to redevelop the Atoll Hospital.
Shedding light on his development vision for the atoll, the president urged council members to work on a plan to utilize uninhabited islands within their jurisdiction with an aim to benefit all island councils under their jurisdiction.
In addition to this, Muizzu assured the councilors that his administration would support individual councils in efforts to seek investors from sectors related to the core policies of his administration.
Muizzu assured councilors that he would extend full support for efforts to ensure that the atoll reaches meaningful progress.
