President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to speed up the development projects that have been halted in Vilufushi island of Thaa atoll.

He said this during a meeting held with the council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Vilufushi island on Tuesday.

The meeting was held as part of his ongoing three-day tour of some islands of Thaa atoll.

During the meeting held at the secretariat of Vilufushi council, Vilufushi councilors raised concerns over the halted development projects, particularly two prominent projects including the hospital development project and the Vilufushi Airport development project.

President Muizzu assured the council that he would ensure the swift implementation of the two development projects.

The meeting also saw councilors briefing the president on the island community’s most pertinent needs and issues including the expansion of fisheries as well as tourism development.

They also touched upon the need to assist and compensate the families who lost their homes due to the 2004 tsunami.

In addition to this, Vilufushi councilors sought from the president to provide essential services to the 100 housing units being developed to resolve housing issues facing the island community.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured that agreeable solutions would be provided by the government through consultations with relevant authorities.

In the president’s ongoing Thaa atoll tour, he visited Guraidhoo first, followed by Dhiyamigili, Madifushi and Vilufushi.
