The council of Veymandoo island of Thaa atoll has briefed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on the island community’s development aspirations.
This was done during a meeting the president held with the members of Veymandoo council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Tuesday, as part of his ongoing three-day tour of some islands of Thaa atoll.
At the meeting held at the secretariat of the Veymandoo council, councilors shed light on their most pertinent needs, challenges facing residents as well as their vision for the island’s development.
These included sports and exercise for youth, space constraints at the island’s harbor, the halting of the construction of the island’s police station as well as challenges faced in waste management.
In addition to this, councilors proposed the development of an ice plant to ease the difficulties their fisher community faces.
The meeting also saw members of the island’s WDC raising concerns regarding the lack of a children’s park, a sports facility for women on the island as well as space constraints at the council secretariat.
The women also shared concerns linked to the limited budget offered to them.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured them that he would work closely with relevant ministries to address the concerns faced and provide agreeable solutions.
