The People’s Majlis has voted against approving the appointment of Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s Cabinet of Ministers.
The parliament sitting to vote on the cabinet’s approval was scheduled for 1pm, Monday.
It was initially scheduled for 11am, however, the sitting was delayed.
Although 72 lawmakers were present at the parliament chambers at the time voting proceeded, there was a difference in the number of lawmakers who participated in the voting process to approve different ministers.

- Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer
- Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan
- Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq
- Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu
- Minister of Health Dr. Abdulla Khaleel
- Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed
- Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam
- Minister of Social and Family Development Dr. Aishath Shiham
- Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu
- Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim
- Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen
- Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Dr. Mariyam Mariya
- Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib

The first vote was taken on the approval of the Defense Minister. 71 lawmakers voted in favor and 70 lawmakers voted in favor of approving FM Zameer. None of the MPs voted against approving the two ministers.
68 lawmakers voted in favor of approving the Home Minister and one voted against. No MPs abstained from these three votes.
70 MPs voted to approve the Finance Minister and 55 MPs voted to approve the Education Minister. Nine MPs voted against approving the Education Minister.
55 MPs voted to approve the Health Minister, with one MP abstaining from the vote.
The Economic Minister was approved with 37 votes in favor, 32 MPs voted against. Saeed was one of the ministers the former ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group decided not to approve.
Only 24 lawmakers voted to approve Usham’s appointment as AG, with the remaining 44 members voting against.
30 MPs voted in favor of approving the Islamic Minister’s appointment, with 31 against.
46 MPs voted against approving Haidar’s appointment and only 24 MPs voted in favor of his appointment.
70 MPs approved the appointment of the fisheries minister, with 57 MPs voting in favor of appointing Ibrahim Faisal as Tourism Minister.
69 lawmakers voted in favor of the Gender Minister’s appointment and 70 MPs voted in favor of appointing the Sports Minister.
Further, 69 MPs voted in favor of appointing the Environment Minister, and the Transport Minister was approved with the votes of 67 MPs.
The Heritage Minister’s approval came with 63 votes in favor, with the Higher Education Minister being approved with the votes of 64 MPs.
70 MPs voted in favor of the Construction Minister’s appointment as well as the Agriculture Minister’s appointment.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts Ibrahim Waheed was approved with 68 votes and Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef was approved with 70 votes.
