The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with the relocation of the STELCO fuel pump station, currently stationed on outlying Boduthakurufaanu Magu in the capital Malé City.

The STELCO fuel pump station relocation project was contracted to MTCC by the State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO) and the signing ceremony took place on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed by Chief Executive Officer Abdulla Ziyad on behalf of MTCC and Managing Director Hussain Fahmy on behalf of STELCO.

According to STELCO, the decision to shift the fuel pump station from where it is currently located, was reached after the company received numerous requests from the public.

The project entails the demolition of the existing structure in harbor basin and the construction of a 29-meter quay wall.

MTCC will also be required to conduct backfill operations in an area measuring 103 square meters and carry out paving operations in an area measuring 50.44 square meters, under the scope of the project.

In addition to this, two mooring bollards will be installed and a new pump station building will be constructed.

The STELCO fuel pump station relocation project is valued at MVR 7.14 million.

Before the project commences, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be carried out.

MTCC is required to complete the project within 90 days, after the EIA is completed.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, STELCO’s MD Fahmy revealed that they reached the decision to relocate the pump station following instructions from the president and that a portion of the lagoon will be reclaimed to relocate the pump station.

Fahmy added that with the relocation of the pump station, a majority of the issues facing residents would be resolved.

It has been revealed that a total of MVR 7.1 million is being spent on the project from the state budget.
