President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that his administration would block all access to websites that display sexually explicit content.

President Dr. Muizzu made the remarks while speaking at the official function to commemorate Huravee Day, held at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), on Saturday evening.

During his address, the President acknowledged that despite the legal and religious prohibitions in place within the Maldives, access to certain internet content remained available. He emphasized that it is entrusted upon leadership to enforce these prohibitions as per the tenets of our Islamic faith.

The President highlighted the findings of research studies which suggest that exposure to sexually explicit content can negatively impact an individual's cognitive abilities, induce restlessness, and hinder productivity.

He noted that such behavior is not only prohibited by our Islamic faith and our laws but also pose a significant existential threat to the nation and humanity overall.

In light of these considerations, the President reaffirmed the Administration's commitment to uphold these principles and announced forthcoming measures to restrict access to such content.

Emphasizing that the Administration had already taken steps to block access to websites that display sexually explicit content, President Dr. Muizzu said that all such websites would be blocked within the following week.
