The President issued the directive on Saturday.
The directive read that the national flag would be flown at half-mast for three days from Sunday, December 17, 2023, to Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in mourning for Kuwait’s late Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jabir Al-Sabah.
Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah died on Saturday (December 16), aged 86, according to the royal court. He died just over three years after assuming power.
The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed. The emir was admitted to hospital late last month due to what the state news agency described at the time as an emergency health problem but said that he was in a stable condition.
President Dr. Muizzu has sent a message of condolence to the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber, on the passing of the late Emir of Kuwait. President Dr. Muizzu stated that the Maldivian government and people join him in extending their deepest sympathies to the Kuwaiti people on the passing of a great leader.
