The expenses of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s first official trip since assuming office, have been detailed.
The incumbent administration disclosed the expenses of the president’s first official trip since assuming office on November 17, during a press conference held on Thursday, as per his presidential pledge.
Speaking at the presser, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office Mohamed Shahyb revealed that the total cost of the official trip, where President Muizzu visited Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was MVR 3,489,165.12.
A separate breakdown of the president’s travel costs was given to the public, with the information on ticket costs, pocket money and other expenses also provided in detail.
President Muizzu traveled to UAE to attend the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
This was the first meeting the incumbent administration has held with local media to provide a detailed breakdown of the expenses of the president’s official trip.
President Muizzu had earlier pledged to disclose the costs incurred on his overseas trip within 15 days following the conclusion of his overseas visit.
These visits are to have created significant investment opportunities for Maldives.
The president earlier asserted that he would not travel first class during overseas trips. He stated that the vice president would also refrain from traveling first class.
