A 40-year-old man has been arrested and remanded for trying to smuggle in drugs to Fuvahmulah City, by air.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) disclosed that the arrested is a Maldivian man.

MPS states that the man was arrested following a tip-off that he was trying to smuggle drugs into Fuvahmulah City by air. As such, the authority took the man into custody from the Fuvahmulah Airport, on 27 November 2023.

Upon searching the man, a juicepetty bag, an empty film canister and 36 rubber packets with suspected narcotics were found by the MPS.

The mas was remanded for 15 days after being brought before the Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court for a remand hearing.

Fuvahmulah Police Station is investigating the case further.
