MP Hussein was arrested for having entered the parliament premises

MP Saud Hussein, the opposition aligned parliamentarian who was arrested from the Jumhooree Party’s headquarters this week, has been released due to a discrepancy in arrest warrant.

MP Hussein was arrested for having entered the parliament premises, while the Elections Commission has announced that he is no longer a parliamentarian – a decision based on a Supreme Court ruling earlier this month banning floor-crossing.

Said discrepancy is that the court order, which officers used as a basis and the authority for the arrest, was issued in another parliamentarian’s name, MP Mohamed Ameeth, of the Madduvari constituency.

The court order says that ‘MP Ameeth’ would pose a threat to national security if he is allowed to remain a free.
