A total of 1,274 tourist accommodation establishments are currently operational across the Maldives.
This was revealed by the tourism updates statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Thursday.
As such, the ministry’s figures revealed that as of November 08, the number of operational tourist accommodation facilities across the Maldives sat at 1,274.
There are guesthouses on 119 islands spread over 20 atolls, and hotels are situated on 8 islands within 8 atolls. Resorts occupy 68 percent of the available beds, followed by guesthouses (24 percent), safari vessels (5 percent), and hotels (3 percent).
Currently, these establishments—which consist of 174 resorts, 924 guesthouses, 14 hotels, and 162 live-aboard vessels—have 62,880 tourist beds operating throughout them.
The beds operational across these facilities include 42,637 in resorts, 1,940 in hotels, 15,128 in guesthouses and 3,181 in live-aboard vessels.
Maldives currently has a capacity of 1,278 tourist facilities which include 162 safari vessels, 924 guesthouses, 14 hotels and 178 resorts. This means that of the total facility capacity, four resorts are yet to resume operations.
The ministry introduced Homestay in the Maldives in January 2022. Since then, a few more homestay facilities have been opened. This comes under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tourism development vision and policy to make tourism and its benefits accessible to the island communities as well.
