Mariyam Ahmed Didi, famed for her golden voice and songs that captured the hearts of many, has passed away.
Mariyam Didi passed away in her residence, some time on Sunday.
The native of Thinadhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll was 73 at the time of her death.
Reportedly she met and spoke with a few of the island residents on Sunday, who said that she was doing well at the time.
Mariyam Didi was famed for her songs and was celebrated as the “golden voice” from Thinadhoo island.
She is survived by a daughter.
Blind at birth, Mariyam Didi began her singing journey when she was at just the ripe age of seven.
In recognition of her contributions, the government had in 1982 awarded her the Public Service Award for Singing.
