Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Abdullah Riyaz has stated that the silence of Supreme Court at the time when elected legislators were being stripped of their seats was deeply concerning.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Riyaz, who serves as Kimbidhoo Consituency MP, said that the law was clear on how an MP can lose his or her seat and that right was given to Supreme Court. Given this, having Elections Commission declare that MPs had lost their seats was a clear violation of the Constitution.

Following the Supreme Court ruling on floor crossing, Elections Commission had stripped Thulusdhoo Constituency Member of Parliament Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Madduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth, Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain from their seats. The Commission had also announced by-elections for these Constituencies.

The no confidence motion was thrown out of Parliament.
