Maldives Police Service has disclosed that they have arrested four people in connection with the assault on the member of parliament for Maradhoo constituency Ibrahim Shareef.
MPS stated that all the arrests made in connection with the case were Maldivian men. As such, they arrested a 27-year-old man and three 24-year-olds.
Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for remand hearing, the 27-year-old and two 24-year-olds were remanded in custody for 60 days and one 24-year-old for 30 days.
Shareef was assaulted during the second round of the 2023 Presidential Election on 30 September, while he was working with members of his constituency at the Manhattan Business Hotel.
The assault left the MP with a swollen left eye and bruises on the face.
