State Minister at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Akram Kamaluddin, has stated that the land allocation to the recipients under the government’s “Binveriya” scheme, from Giraavaru falhu, will start next week.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Akram said that a large part of the Giraavaru lagoon has already been dredged and reclaimed. He stated that the land will be handed over to the beneficiaries starting next week.

The Housing Ministry is currently allocating land to beneficiaries under the government's “Binveriya” scheme in line with President Ibrahim Mohammed Salih's promise to solve the housing problem in Male’ City.

So far, the ministry has handed over the land registry to about 700 people who received land from Hulhumale’, and more than 40 people have been handed over their land and the land registry from Gulhifalhu Falhu. 

Akram has assured the beneficiaries of the land scheme that their and land registry will be handed over to them by 5th November 2023. 

The ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme comes under the ‘Gedhoruverin’ programme launched by the administration to address the housing crisis facing the residents of the Greater Malé Region. Under the scheme, 1351 plots of land will be allocated from Hulhumale’ 2218 plots from Gulhifalhu and 5432 plots in Giraavaru Falhu. This is a total of 9,001 plots of land. 

Of these, 1250 acres, 1650 acres and 2050 acres will be allocated from Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru Falhu. 

Furthermore, land between 2450 acres and 4000 acres will be allocated from Hulhumale’ and Gulhifalhu. 

A total of 19,639 individuals have been deemed eligible in the final list for the ‘Binveriyaa’ Housing Scheme.
