The administration has released the final list of recipients for land plots in the ‘Binveriya’ Housing Scheme.

The list was publicized on Sunday.

With this, the selection process for the scheme has been completed.

The list has been published in the Government Gazette and is now available for public viewing.

At a press conference held at the President’s Office on Sunday, Akram Kamaaluddin, the Minister of State for National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure, provided details on the procedures to finalize the list of recipients for the housing scheme. He announced that land allotments from Hulhumalé and Gulhifalhu for the beneficiaries would begin this week, following a drawing of lots among the recipients.

A total of 19,631 individuals have been deemed eligible in the final list for the ‘Binveriyaa’ Housing Scheme, with 18,948 set to receive one of the currently available 9,003 land plots. The final list was published this evening after thoroughly reviewing the preliminary list of beneficiaries and carefully considering any complaints or inquiries.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has committed to addressing the housing situation in the Malé region. The ‘Binveriyaa’ Housing Scheme represents the most comprehensive housing initiative ever undertaken in the country, reflecting the administration’s dedication to finding a solution to this pressing issue. This ambitious project aims to provide housing to residents and improve the overall quality of life in the region.

The ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme comes under the ‘Gedhoruverin’ programme launched by the administration to address the housing crisis facing the residents of the Greater Malé Region.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that 6,200 plots of land will be issued under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme this time round.

Initially, the government decided to issue 5,000 plots of land from the Greater Malé Region under the scheme. These include 1,000 plots of land from Hulhumalé, 2,000 plots of land from Gulhifalhu and 2,000 from Giraavarufalhu.

However, President Solih has since announced the government’s decision to increase the plots of land to be issued this round, to 6,200.

As such, instead of 1,000 plots of land, 2,200 plots will be allocated from Hulhumalé, with which the total number of plots granted under the initiative will rise to 6,200.

In addition to this, President Solih noted that the government is currently exploring ways through which more plots of land can be reserved for the purpose, from Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu.

He also assured that the people in dire need of land in the GMR, will be granted land in the future.

He also revealed that the plots of land issued to beneficiaries from the Greater Malé Region (GMR) under the ‘Binveriyaa’ scheme will be handed over during August 2023.

Adding that the 150-hectare land reclamation project would also support the development of the Gulhifalhu port in addition to providing land for the Binveriyaa Housing Scheme, the president announced that the administration plans to allocate 2,000 housing plots in Gulhifalhu and reserve another 2,000 for the housing scheme in Giraavarufalhu.

The government received a total of 15,164 applications by the time deadline for applications rolled around. These include 12,794 applications that met the criteria, which makes up 19,858 individuals.

The government had announced its decision to issue land plots to all those who meet the criteria from among the applicants.

During his presidential address in 2022, President Solih announced that a solution will be provided for those in desperate need of housing in the capital city, by the time his presidential term ends and during his fifth presidential address delivered this year, he announced the decision to increase the plots of land to be issued from GMR for housing.

Referring to his fourth presidential address delivered at the parliament, President Solih said that the government has no intention to deceive the people in its endeavor to meet the pledges.
