President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that strong ties with the international community are the most significant binding force in defending and preserving the nation’s independence.

He made these remarks during his address to the nation on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence, on Wednesday.

In his address to the nation, President Solih described the strong ties Maldives has with the international community as the most significant binding force in defending and preserving the nation’s independence. He highlighted that these strong relations have enabled the country to accelerate its economic development, making progress towards enhancing individual livelihoods and household revenues.

Highlighting that protecting and preserving the nation’s sovereignty is the administration’s utmost priority, the President reaffirmed his continued commitment to safeguarding the dignity and honor of the country.

In his address, the President stated that the most significant satisfaction an individual can derive from independence is the protection of their civil liberties. He continued by saying that the people have long grasped their civil rights to make headway in developmental efforts, such as educating their children.

President Solih also highlighted the nation’s progress in achieving complete political freedom in all fields over the past five years, providing the people with comprehensive political, domestic, and foreign freedoms while safeguarding their civil liberties.

President Solih also paid tribute to the nation’s revered independence heroes in his address.

The official Independence Day ceremony was held at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE). The ceremony was attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Cabinet Ministers, senior judiciary officials, parliamentarians, foreign dignitaries, and foreign diplomats stationed in the Maldives.

The Maldives commemorates its Independence Day every year on July 26th, marking the 58th anniversary of the nation’s independence this year.
