'OneGov' is the foundation of the Maldives’ transition to a digital government, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The president made this remark while speaking at the ceremony held to unveil the oneGov platform on Monday.
The platform integrates government services through a modern digital interface and in turn facilitates seamless interactions between the public and the government.
Shedding light on the importance of the oneGov platform in enabling citizens to access government services through a citizen-centric approach, the president noted that oneGov is a crucial tool for the Maldives to fight climate change and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as a geographically isolated archipelago nation.
The platform, which offers digital government services on a round-the-clock basis, was launched with an aim to eliminate the need for inter-island travel to access services at government offices and institutions.
It also carries the purpose of addressing challenges surfacing due to lack of information as well as to eliminate the inconvenience of printing forms for service applications.
Highlighting that the platform will aid in battling corruption and reducing paper consumption, the president stated that it would also help to promote environment and economic growth.
The platform can be accessed through the National Digital Identity Service 'Efaas' and integrates services from six government offices and institutions.
The platform will be expanded in the future as more government services are added and is supported by three contact centers across the nation, through which the public can seek assistance in person or through online consultations.
During his speech, the president encouraged the public to use the platform's convenience.
The event, held in Sultan Park in the capital Malé City, was joined by Vice President Faisal Naseem.
