Maldives Media Council opens applications for membership

Applications have been opened for membership at the Maldives Media Council (MMC).
In a publication, the council revealed that a seat will open up at the council in September, as the term of a current media member is set to expire on 10 September 2023.
This comes under Act 15/2008 of the Maldives Media Council Act.
The duration of a term of an MMC member is two years and no member will be allowed to serve two consecutive terms as a council member.
The media council has publicized the requirements and criteria that needs to be met, for council members in accordance with Section 7 of the Maldives Media Council Act.
The criteria states that the applicant must be above 18 years of age and must not be a person who has been proved by court through trial to have committed an offence punishable in Islam.
Registered media outlets who are interested in the vacancy at MMC have been instructed to send in applications before 2pm on July 13.
