Mohamed Shihab has resigned from his post as Advisor to the president.
The President’s Office has confirmed that the former Minister of Home Affairs resigned from his post as Advisor to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Sunday.
A reason for his resignation was not disclosed by the President’s Office.
Shihab has tendered his resignation, four years after serving in the position, at a time he has been involved in a number of anti-government activities, over the past few days.
The former Speaker of the People’s Majlis was appointed as Advisor to the president on 15 October 2019.
Having also served as Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Finance and Treasury, Shihab filled the position of parliament speaker from August 2008 to May 2009.
Another position he filled includes Mayor of the capital, Malé City from 2014 to 2017.
