The government is to establish a National Fertility Care Program.

This was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday.

As such, taking the podium at the opening ceremony of the Tree Top Hospital (TTH) Fertility Center, the president noted that the administration is carrying out the necessary steps to introduce a comprehensive national fertility care program.

Shedding light on the importance of the newly established fertility clinic at TTH, the president highlighted its status as a novel service in the Maldives and stated that such fertility services play a vital role in the country.

He particularly noted the achievement of providing accessible treatment options to individuals who can now stay close to their families without needing overseas travel or jeopardize their jobs.

The President assured that his administration remains unwavering its support to further enhance and expand this service.

Touching upon the administration's endeavors to establish a comprehensive fertility care program across the country, the President stated that the relevant authorities are involved in an in-depth study of best practices and procedures implemented in other countries.

He went on to shed light on the importance of creating a program that effectively caters to the needs of those who require such assistance.

Further, he noted that the administration is engaged in identifying individuals who meet the criteria for participation in the program and that extensive efforts are underway to extensively circulate fertility health information to raise awareness.

President Solih noted that providing such services in the Maldives also carry economic advantages as it enables substantial cost savings for individuals who would otherwise have to seek treatment abroad and positively impacts the overall economy.

First Lady Fazna Ahmed and Vice President Faisal Naseem were also in attendance at the ceremony.

Aiming to provide accessible infertility treatments for Maldivians, the establishment of the TTH Fertility Center marks an important milestone as the first-of-its-kind fertility center in the country.
