President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with the Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members of Dharanboodhoo Island in Faafu atoll.

The meeting was held at the secretariat of the Dharanboodhoo Island Council, on Saturday.

The meeting saw members of the island council highlighting the administration's implementation of diverse development projects, such as the coastline protection initiative, the construction of a high-quality football field with a running track, and the establishment of a social center to enhance the island's overall progress.

Additionally, the council members commended the administration's commitment to constructing a youth and community center on Dharanboodhoo Island.

They also expressed concerns regarding the financial grant format for councils, highlighted the need for a multipurpose hall at the Dharanboodhoo School, and raised the issue of insufficient space for nurses to work at the healthcare center.

Furthermore, during the meeting, President Solih was briefed by the WDC members regarding the various activities undertaken by the committee during the current term. The committee also highlighted the financial constraints that have impacted their work.

Speaking at the meeting, the President emphasized on his administration's commitment to inclusive island development through active consultation with councils and the active participation of the community.

President Solih responded to the concerns raised by the council and WDC members, expressing his unwavering commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address the identified issues effectively.

He also expressed the need to revise the existing criteria for distributing council grants.

Dharanboodhoo Island was the second stop of the President's tour of Faafu atoll. He is joined by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation of the government.
