The greatest responsibility of a journalist is to deliver the truth to the public, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The president made this remark in an address delivered to the public on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.
Extending greetings and best wishes to journalists, their families, news organization executives as well as their employees, President Solih stressed that the most important responsibility of a journalist is to remain in service of the truth and provide facts-based information to the public.
In his remarks, the Maldivian leader claimed that all journalists are responsible to put in their best efforts to maintain the right to freedom of the press, adding that protecting fundamental human rights and promoting equality for all should be among the top priorities of a journalist.
Shedding light on the vital role journalists play in the society, President Solih stated that relentless efforts of local journalists have been a massive force in the progress of the nation toward democracy.
The president went on to note that the knowledge and experiences of local journalists should be considered when working towards further development of journalism in the archipelago nation.
Assuring that his administration remains committed to maintain full freedom of the press, President Solih pledged to always ensure that every person has the right to freedom of expression and access to information.
