Ex-VP calls for AG, Chief of Defence Force to resign
Made the statement following reports the two had visited Supreme Court
No reason given for the covert visit to Supreme Court
Meeting held late on Thursday night

Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has called on Attorney General Mohamed Anil and Chief of Defense Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam to resign.

The statement came after the two had paid a visit to the Supreme Court late on Thursday night.

In his tweet, Dr. Jameel who had also served as Justice Minister at the Maumoon administration, said that this is not a sign that the judiciary is independent and therefore, the two must resign.

Trusted sources report that the two had visited Supreme Court at around 10.30pm on Thursday. No other details of the meeting have been made public, while the media official for Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) had said he was not aware of such a visit.

Eyewitnesses reported that AG Anil entered Supreme Court through the main doors, while Chief of Defense Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam had used the side entrance near the local market.

The AG had not answered the calls made by RaajjeMV for a comment.

The visit came at a time when rumors had surfaced that the Government was contemplating on asking for a ruling by the Supreme Court, that automatically removes any sitting Parliamentarian if he votes against the whip line or exits their respective Party.
