If all goes as planned, lessons will begin in the new Arabiyya building in 2024, says Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali.
Minister Aishath stated this during Monday's parliament sitting, while answering a question asked by the Member of Parliament for Mahibadhoo constituency, Ahmed Toriq.
MP Toriq asked for what price and for what period the building was contracted for as it had been announced that a contractor had been awarded the contract for the construction of a new building for the Arabiyya School in 2022. He also asked for the update on the project.
Toriq wanted to clarify if the Minister had an estimated date on when, classes can be commenced in the new school building.
The Education Minister stated that the concept of the Arabiyya School has been drawn. She stated that the work on the detailed drawings of the building is near completion.
Noting that the detailed drawing is expected to be completed by this month, Minister Aishath stated that work on the building will be commenced on monday.
The government is to develop a new building for Arabiyya School, on the plot of land where the old Jamaluddin School is located. This was announced during a meeting held between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Arabiyya School on 20 December, 2021.
The new building of Arabiyya School was contracted to Amin Constructions.
The administration has stated that the development of a new building for Al Madharusathul Arabiyyathul Islamiyya is a priority project for this administration.
As such, MVR 168 million had been earmarked in the State Budget 2023 for developing the new building for Arabiyya School and the extension building for Jamaluddin School.
